News from Cyprus, May 2012
2012 has been a productive year for the Cyprus Association of Occupational Therapists. During the past year some very important steps have been taken with the goal of raising the visibility of OT in Cyprus as well as for ensuring better quality of services and professional standards.

The association has launched its website and therefore introduced a new way of communication with its members and the public. The website is currently set in the Greek language only, but the Association is planning to translate it in the English language in the future.

Last March we had the pleasure to organise the second specialised seminar for OTs. More preciselyit was a seminar on Dyspraxia. We had 32 participants, which for the standards of the Cypriot Association was satisfactory.,

Last year the Association had also published its first informative leaflet and since then we have been republishing it. The leaflet included general information regarding OT, more specific information about OT services in Cyprus and contact details for the Association. It is being distributed to different health organisations and associations, to doctors, to other allied health professionals, to the public etc.

Furthemore, the Cypriot Council for Occupational Therapists Registration has created two working groups and each one of them is responsible for the development of the registration criteria for OTs and for OT settings accordingly.

In general we are very pleased to observe that OT has been more acknowledged during the last two years, since our Association is frequently asked to participate in working groups of the Minitsry of Health and of other health organisations which are responsible for the development of national strategies and for decision making that directly affects OT. We are also asked every year to participate in occupation expositions which are visited mainly by young persons and they are able to get information about their options in studying OT.
